So it's finally here, Albeit in massive need of creation. For now this will be the home of my senior project well...project I have been designing things since about my freshman year in high school, but have never been able to take it to this level. Over the coarse of this year ill be refining and designing roughly six yoyos. My company name: Harlequin Yo-Yos. Soon new sections to the forum will be created and ill make a thread discussing the design and progress each yo-yo is making. This Tuesday, I'll be going down to the machine shop to meet two of my three mentors who will be helping me through out this project. Hopefully i can form some friendships, and make some hopefully unforgettable throws. Hope you guys who join this lame forum enjoy the ride Thanks, -HMalant/Steve.

Alright well today was really productive. I learned more about costs and such. And most importantly how thin aluminum can be machined. And believe it or not this can be quite thin less then .1mm in some cases. so this gives me a whole new approach i can take on making the solitaire. i also got to make a 3D final of the model which inspight of what some people say i absolutely love. It may need some minor tweaking but all is well.
On another note my other mentor runs a rather industrious machinining company dealing with aalot of the smaller things and if i play my cards right i might be able to get a run of 100 out of him for nothing more then the cost of materials. Which is ridiculously amazing. e can also calculate the weight and he can simulate how it will spin all from his program.
This day turned out really well, expect another revision sometime tonight.
Thanks, -HMalant

Wow alright so i was doing some things in PTC and found out you could mass your 3D object.
And Mass i did.
So (now the 3D model isnt an exact copy of the 2d drawing, mainly on the inside the outside is perfect. But according to the calculation for Al6061 (the aluminum i'll probably use that or 7075) It will weigh 61.23g. Now thats with out the holes. Which shows me i've got a bit of weight i could add now without the holes it's 56g. An extremely light yoyo. Now this means i've got quite a bit of weight i can add to rims or centre or both depending.
Now i've played a 52g yoyo, and that thing feels like air on the string i'm unsure of where i'll put the extra weight or if any's even needed.
But i thought i'd let everyone know that i've figured out the weight for that, and the solitaire which will weigh around 64g.
But what do you all think of those weights so far? (realizing how much it will weigh gives me quite a bit of room to play with now)
Thanks, -HMalant/Steve

56 grams is way too light. I would suggest 1 underweight (61-63) three mid weights (64-66) and one overweight (67-?). Then again, weight has nothing to do with how much it feels.
